OutRun (1986)

Developed by Sega and based on the Sega OutRun board, this legendary racing game was programmed in Assembly.

Players drive a Ferrari Testarossa, racing against time, avoiding traffic and choosing different routes. Its innovative design allowed for a choice of music, creating a unique experience. OutRun was developed by Sega and released in 1986. The game ran on the Sega OutRun arcade system board, which was based on a 10 MHz Motorola 68000 processor, with a 4 MHz Zilog Z80 coprocessor. For sound, it used the Yamaha YM2151 for FM synthesis and Sega PCM for sample playback. The screen resolution was 320x224 pixels with the ability to display up to 4096 colors. The system supported sprite scaling, allowing for smooth graphics movement.

Fun Fact: Its creator, Yu Suzuki, was inspired by his road trip in Europe!
