Midway's Mortal Kombat II, based on the Midway T-Unit hardware, was programmed in Assembly and featured even more violent fatalities, improved moves, and an expanded roster of characters.
The game was such a success that it is considered one of the best fighting games of all time. Developed by Midway, Mortal Kombat II was released in 1993. The game ran on the Midway T-Unit arcade system, which used a TMS34010 processor at 6.25 MHz. The screen resolution was 400x254 pixels with a palette of 32768 colors. For sound, it used the Williams DCS Sound System, which provided high-quality digital sound.
Fun Fact: The extreme violence of Mortal Kombat II contributed to the creation of the ESRB rating system!
